Monthly Reflection

Vision is more than a strategic plan. It is the prophetic imagination that allows us to see what does not yet exist and work toward it with faith. In our UU tradition, we have always been a people of forward motion, guided by the better world we can sense on the horizon. To vision together is holy work. It requires honesty about the present, courage to name what is needed, and faith that our collective dreaming has the power to shape what comes next. We take this month to listen, to dream, and to discern together.

Sunday Celebrations Overview

September carries us from homecoming into forward motion, as we return to congregational life ready to dream together about where we are being called. We honor the dignity of labor and the learning of our children in the same breath, understanding that vision is built as much in the classroom and the workplace as in the sanctuary. By month’s end, we ground ourselves in the radical, founding proclamation of our Universalist ancestors, that no one is beyond the reach of love, and let that ancient hope become our vision for the year ahead.

Sun, Sep 06, 2026 – Labor in the Pulpit: Sacred Work, Shared Justice
Life rarely unfolds exactly as we hope. In difficult times, we may find ourselves searching for meaning, grounding, courage, or simply a way to keep going. What does our Unitarian Universalist faith offer us when the path ahead feels uncertain?

As we begin our September theme, “Visioning Together: Where Are We Being Called?”, members of our congregation will share personal reflections and experiences of how their UU faith has sustained, challenged, guided, or surprised them during difficult times.

Together, we’ll consider the gifts we find in our shared values, our community, our practices, and our commitment to one another and ask what these gifts might be calling us toward in the days ahead.

Sun, Sep 13, 2026 – Homecoming: Gathering In for a New Year
On this first Sunday of our congregational year, we gather with our two new intern ministers, Paolo Sparti and Chase Williams. From wherever the summer has taken us, we come together ready to begin again together.

Homecoming is an act of vision: a chance to ask where we are being called as a community in the season ahead. We welcome every hand, heart, and story home, and we step into the year with hope.

Sun, Sep 20, 2026 – Forward Motion: A LifeSpan Learning Kick-Off
We begin a new year of LifeSpan Learning by honoring Sophia Lyon Fahs, whose bold vision reimagined how we nurture the spiritual lives of our children. Her insistence that faith formation be rooted in wonder, honesty, and freedom still guides us forward.

As we vision together where we are being called this year, we dedicate ourselves to continued learning and raising up a new generation unafraid to question, explore, and grow.

Sun, Sep 27, 2026 – Universalism Day: The First Sermon of Universal Love
We will mark the anniversary of John Murray’s first Universalist sermon in colonial New Jersey and his radical proclamation that no one is beyond the reach of divine love. His courage to preach universal salvation reshaped our faith and still calls us to imagine communities of radical inclusion. This Sunday, we vision what it means to carry that same fearless love into the world today.

Horizons of Hope: Faith for the Journey Ahead invites our communities to look forward with vision, purpose, and trust. In a world that often tempts us toward fear and contraction, we choose expansion: of our circles, our compassion, our imagination, and our commitment to justice.

This year, we ask what it means to be a people of forward motion honoring all that has shaped us while releasing what no longer serves the world we are called to build.

We look ahead with hope not as wishful thinking, but as a spiritual discipline and a prophetic act turning toward the open horizon not with naivety, but with clear-eyed courage.
